A public discussion on “The Right to be Free from Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment”

The Partnership for Open Society Initiative, representing more than 60 civil society organizations, is pleased to invite you to participate in a public discussion on “The Right to be Free from Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment”.

The event will take place on December 12, 2016, at 2:00 p.m, at DoubleTree by Hilton Yerevan Hotel (Grigor Lusavorich 4/2, Yerevan Armenia).

During the event, civil society representatives will present their observations about the periodic review of Armenia on the implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment held during the 59th Session of the United Nations Committee Against Torture on 23-24 November, 2016, in Geneva.

During the presentation, civil society experts will share concerns on use of torture and ill-treatment as well as will share recommendations aimed at improvement of both legislation and practice.

Representatives of the RA Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MoJ Penitentiary Service, Police, Special Investigation Service, Investigation Committee, Prosecutor’s General, Judicial Department, Courts National Assembly, Human Rights Defender and other agencies, diplomatic missions, international organizations, civil society and media are invited to attend the event.

The draft agenda of the event is enclosed to the invitation. Simultaneous translation from Armenian to English and vice versa is provided.
